Pangarap ng mother ni Ned na maging duktor siya. To please her, at the age of 16, he took pre-med college entrance exams at four universities. Pero bumagsak siya sa lahat ng exams! Though disappointed, Ned’s mother still supported him by letting him pursue his real interest at that time, which is, mass communication.

Years passed, pero hindi nawala sa isip ni Ned ang maging duktor. Thirty-seven years later, when he was already 53, he took another exam, this time to become a doctor of a different kind. He took the most difficult test — the PhD comprehensive exam at the top state university in the country. For the first time in all his qualifying exams, he did very well and passed. Ned finally fulfilled his mother’s dream of having a doctor son — not as the doctor she once hoped for, but as the doctor he has chosen to become: a Doctor of Philosophy.

Sabi sa Proverbs 16:9 (AMP), “A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], But the Lord directs his steps and establishes them.” Maaaring may mga pangarap ang parents natin for us, na hindi naman natin gusto. O baka gusto rin natin, pero not exactly. People who love us may see something in us and guide us toward achieving a life goal, but it is God who clarifies His vision for us. Siya rin ang gagawa ng paraan para matupad ang layunin Niya sa atin. For some it may take a short time; but for others, kagaya ni Ned, the realization of the dream happened after 37 years. Will you trust God to direct you toward the realization of His dream for you no matter how long it takes?
