At sinabi niya sa kanilang lahat, “Mag-ingat kayo sa lahat ng uri ng kasakiman; sapagkat ang buhay ng tao ay wala sa dami ng kanyang kayamanan.”

Lucas 12:15

Add to cart mo na ‘yan!

It seems that every month, there’s an ongoing sale and there is always something you need to have. At dahil sa convenience ng online shopping, naging madali na para sa atin to overspend. We spend money we don’t have, to buy things we don’t need, to impress people we don’t even like. And when we’re not careful it can become a vicious cycle, ending in debt and poverty.

This is why Jesus reminds us of what’s truly important. He told us in Luke 12:15 that our lives should not revolve around acquiring possessions. Following this statement, Jesus told a story about a man who was focused on building bigger barns for his grains. He ended up dying because while he has an investment mindset, he has forgotten about God Himself.

In the same way, fixing our eyes on material things will inevitably cause us to forget about the most important things in life. First on that list is our love for God and people. The Apostle Paul also reinforces this idea when He wrote to Timothy about the love of money being a root for all kinds of evil. Some people end up losing more than they bargained for.

Kaya bago tayo mag add to cart, let’s always check our own hearts. It is good to ask questions such as: “Kailangan ko ba talaga ito?”, and “May budget ba talaga ako?” Aside from this, we can also keep a simple living mindset. Buy things for their usefulness and not just because of the “status” having something will give you. Be wise when thinking about getting a buy now pay later deal. And lastly, trust that God provides what we need, and He is never late. He is always on time.
