Sa first day pa lang ng buwang ito, the countdown begins. Many radio stations start playing Christmas carols. At sa mga araw na ito, 3 months before Christmas, sumisilip na ang popular singer na si Jose Mari Chan para i-remind ang lahat na malapit na ang pinakamasayang event sa Pilipinas — ang pagdiriwang ng kapanangakan ni Jesus.

Expect his song,  “Christmas in our Hearts” to be played over and over again during this time. Alam ba ninyo na unang lumabas ang awit na ito noong 1990? Kuwento ni Jose Mari – “The Holy Spirit works in magnificent ways. (It) began as a Filipino poem entitled, ‘Ang Tubig ay Buhay’.”

A high school was celebrating its silver jubilee and he was asked to set the poem to music. He added, “The meter was so lilting that it only took me half a day to come up with the melody.” For his first Christmas album, he gave the melody a new personality by turning it into a Christmas carol. And with the help of a young female composer, “Christmas in our Hearts” was born.  

Sa paglipas ng panahon, naging sikat ang awit na ito. Sabi sa Time magazine, Jose Mari Chan has become the “face and voice of the holiday season” in the Philippines.

Maganda ang mensahe ng awit na ito. Naka-focus sa ating PanginoonG Jesus, with a line that encourages us to let Him guide us as another new year starts. Sabi ni Jose Mari Chan, “This song is a gift from our Lord that I share with our countrymen.”

Nawa sa darating na Kapaskuhan, huwag nating kakalimutan to let the spirit of Christmas be always in our hearts. Maagang maligayang pasko sa ating lahat.
