Feeling Lousy
Damdam ko ba sa sarili, naghahari’y pawang lungkot; sang-ayon sa pangako mo, palakasin akong lubos.
Awit 119:28 (MBB)
Ruth is an energetic call center worker. Her voice says it all. Vibrant and para kang nakikinig sa kanta when she talks. Even the way she walks has a spring to it. She wears bright-colored clothes, and as she says, the color of her clothes matches her mood.
But today, Ruth woke up feeling lousy. Actually, she has been like this for the past few days but she shrugs it off as perhaps, it’s because of some hormonal imbalance. But the feeling still persists and today, she feels like dragging herself to the office. Feeling blehin her heart that she cannot explain.
Maybe you have experienced this. So what can you do when you have feeling-lousy days like this?
First, acknowledge that feeling. Don’t deceive yourself by saying, “Ah wala lang ito.”
Second, try to think about what might have been causing you to feel tired and lousy. Baka naman talagang pagod ka lang or puyat from the many activities an active person like you is usually prone to. Or baka may meds ka na nakaka-antok and this makes you feel lousy.
Third, you may liken yourself to the psalmist who asked a similar question, “Why are you cast down, oh my soul? As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Psalm. 42:1–2, ESV).
God understands us through and through. It is OK not to be OK and we can always approach Him with a heart that is lonely, tired, and confused. And we can pray for help like what the psalmist did who yearned for God.
LET’S PRAY
Dear God, I am tired of feeling tired and lousy these past days. I can’t even praise You today because I feel I am lost. Restore my joy and point out to me why I am feeling this way. Please help me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
APPLICATION
Talk to a close friend. If he or she shares the same belief in Christ, ask for prayers. You will feel a lot better when you open up to another person and talk about your bottled-up feelings.
