Nakatayo ako at kumakatok sa pintuan. Kung diringgin ninuman ang aking tinig at bubuksan ang pinto, papasok ako sa kanyang tahanan at kakain kaming magkasalo.

Pahayag 3:20

“Halika, kain na tayo!”

Ito marahil ang isa sa madalas nating naririnig tuwing tayo ay nakakakita ng kumakain. Minsan, kahit sapat lang ang pagkaing nakahain, people never fail to invite others to share a meal. Ito ay dahil sa ating mga Pilipino, mahalaga sa atin ang community at hospitality. We do our best to make people feel welcomed and to belong.

It is no wonder why the Bible also uses meals to show relationships with God and with people. Some examples would be when Abraham was visited by God in Genesis 18. He offered meals to his visitors who turned to be God and His angels. Makikita rin natin ito sa buhay ni Jesus, kung saan Siya ay makikitang nakikisalo sa hapag kainan ng maraming tao. Jesus even likened Himself to a bread which people will consume, signifying an intimate act (John 6:48–51). Before Jesus was crucified, He shared a meal with His disciples. When He came back after His crucifixion, kumain rin Siya kasama ang Kanyang mga alagad. This is why when the apostles established the early church, breaking bread was a part of their worship experience. Not only does it help them celebrate the communion, but sharing meals strengthened their fellowship. Indeed, sharing meals is a way that God shows increased intimacy.

The good news is that the invitation to share a meal with God is still open to everyone who is willing. Gusto ni Lord na makasama Niya tayong kumain at mas lalong tayong maging malapit sa Kanya. At dahil si Lord ang nagyaya, Siya rin ang taya (Isaiah 55:1–2). All He wants is for you to say yes to His invitation. Will you come and share a meal with Jesus?
