“Kayo ang asin ng sangkatauhan. Ngunit kung ang asin ay mawalan na ng alat, paano pa ito mapapaalat muli? Hindi ba wala na itong kabuluhan kundi ang itapon at tapakan ng mga tao?”

Mainam na pampalasa ang asin. Lalong sumasarap ang beef steak o sinigang kapag may halong asin. Pero ang asin ay hindi lang ginagamit as seasoning. Mahalaga rin itong ingredient sa paggawa ng fermented food gaya ng kimchi, atsara, burong mustasa at iba pa. You can gargle saltwater for sore throat and soak your feet in saltwater for muscle aches and tiredness. Panlinis din pala ito ng mga kaldero at kawali!

Noon pa man, napakahalaga na ng asin. Jesus knew the great value of salt and used that metaphor nang sabihin Niya sa mga tagasunod Niya na sila ang asin ng sangkatauhan. Later on, Paul showed the followers of Jesus how they can live out their calling as salt of the earth. He said, “Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out” (Colossians 4:6, MSG).

Kapag kasama tayo sa conversation, sumasarap ba ang usapan?

Kapag nagsasalita tayo, may sense ba ang sinasabi natin? Does it show wisdom?

Kapag may chance, do we share the Good News that Jesus is the remedy for sin? That He alone can cleanse us and heal us?

God’s grace in us empowers our speech to be gracious, seasoned with salt, and full of wisdom. You are valuable and you bring value to others. You are a God-sent salt to this world.
