Kaya’t kung nakipag-isa na kay Cristo ang isang tao, isa na siyang bagong nilalang. Wala na ang dati niyang pagkatao, sa halip, ito’y napalitan na ng bago.

2 Mga Taga-Corinto 5:17

David inherited his parents’ house when they passed away. It was an 80s-style home but well built. Since David was about to get married, he and his fiancé planned to renovate the old house to make it their own.

Despite being reluctant initially, David agreed and hired an architect to design a new home. He and his fiancé were so excited about how it would turn out. David couldn’t wait to see the transformation of the old house.

A person who surrenders to Christ is given a new heart that’s no longer full of evil but full of God’s goodness. But one’s behavior is continually being transformed. For many, the transformation is gradual. Giving up sin is the most challenging part because instead of pleasing the self, honoring God is the goal. Like in any house renovation, the contractor must demolish the old and shaky foundation to make way for a new and strong one.

Understanding and following biblical principles is not instant either. There will be resistance at first because people are so used to following their selfish desires rather than God’s desire for them. A house renovation takes time, and so does our behavior.

David and his wife must trust the architect’s design of demolishing the old structure to build a beautiful home for him and his future family. In the same way, followers of Christ must trust the Creator in completely transforming their lives — both inside and out.

Has the Lord been making radical changes in your life? Are you resisting the transformation? Or are you embracing this new life? I hope it’s the latter.

LET’S PRAY

Lord, I admit that sometimes following You is not easy, but I know that it will be worth it. Thank You for softening my heart so I can obey Your Word and trust Your design for my life. I want to live the rest of my life with this new heart that You’ve given me. Thank You for loving me unconditionally and enabling me to love You too, wholeheartedly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
