Wala Ka Nang Gagawin
Niksen. It’s an approach to life popularized by the Dutch which means “to do nothing, to be idle, or to do something without any use.” In essence, wala ka talagang gagawin na kakailanganin ng effort. You can just sit, look at your surroundings, let your mind wander, enjoy the view. Although at first it may seem like a person who “niks” is not doing anything productive, on the contrary, such an individual may actually experience a decrease in stress and an increase in creativity. According to sociologist Ruut Veenhoven, even when a person is not doing anything, the brain can still process information kaya kahit tumitingin-tingin o naglalakad lang, that person can have a “lightbulb moment” — the discovery of an innovative solution to a problem or a novel concept.
May inintroduce rin na concept ang Bible para sa atin to help us not just manage our stress but to maximize the benefits of what Jesus Christ has already accomplished for us. And this concept is rest.
In the Old Testament, God instituted Sabbath, a day of rest that the Israelites should observe (Exodus 20:8–11). Literally, tigil ang lahat ng trabaho. By commanding the Israelites not to work for one day a week, God is demonstrating His concern for their well-being. In return, He expects His people to show their dependence on Him for provision. In the New Testament, this concept of finding rest gains a deeper meaning as we realize that Jesus is calling us to rest in His finished work on the cross. Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins once and for all, and we do not have to work for our salvation (Hebrews 10:11-14; Ephesians 2:8–9). We will find spiritual, emotional, and physical rest when we believe that what Jesus did on the cross is enough and that He wants us to enjoy it and be grateful for this gift.
LET’S PRAY
Thank You, Jesus, for I can rest in the fact that You died and rose from the dead to save me. Wala akong ibang dapat gawin at wala akong ibang maipagmamalaki — only You!
APPLICATION
Take a moment each day to thank God for His gift of salvation.
