Out With the Old
Out with the old, in with the new. Isa itong idiom that means leaving behind old things and replacing them with new ones. For example, changing your diet from unhealthy processed food to healthier alternatives. Or leaving your current place of work for better opportunities. Sometimes, madali lang iwanan ang isang bagay and replace it with a new one. But because humans are naturally resistant to change, mas madalas na nahihirapan tayong gawin ang pagpapalit na ito.
Paano naman sa kasalanan? Do you struggle with leaving behind your pet sins to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord?
Sabi ni Apostle Paul in the same verse, we have to “put to death what is earthly” in us. Of course, this doesn’t mean we have to physically die. It also doesn’t mean na dapat nating talikuran ang mundo at ang mga tao rito. Instead, what we need to put to death are the things that are earthly — sins and bad habits that take us away from having a true relationship with the Lord.
Remember, Jesus already died on the cross para iligtas tayo sa ating mga kasalanan. And when we accept Him as our Savior, we die with Him, not physically, but from our sins. We become renewed in Christ.
Do you have trouble turning your back on old sins? Remember how Jesus gave His life to give us a chance to experience something better and new. Let that help us put to death our old sinful selves and embrace our renewed selves in Christ.
Whenever we turn to the Word of God, we always discover something liberating and fulfilling.
LET’S PRAY
Lord, sometimes I go back to my old sins because that’s where I’m comfortable. Please help me to completely turn my back on these old bad habits and be faithful to You instead. Amen.
APPLICATION
