Would you consider yourself a patient person? Paano ba maging matiyaga?

Just when you asked God to give you patience, it seemed that what you received were different ways to practice patience.

Patience is one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. And anyone who received Jesus Christ has the Holy Spirit in him. Kaya as followers of Christ, we will bear His fruit and one of which is patience.

There’s Abraham who waited 25 years for his son Isaac to be born. Si Job who experienced losing his family members and riches but remained faithful to God. The Apostle Paul who was patient while being persecuted. At siyempre, si Jesus Christ who endured many sufferings until He died for our sins at the cross. From their life stories, we can learn what it means to be patient.

Patience means:

strength as we wait for God’s plan to unfold (Isaiah 40:31).
trusting God amidst the chaos around us (Psalm 46:10).
restraint in responding and being mindful of our choice of words (Proverbs 25:15).
bearing one another and making allowance for each other’s faults (Ephesians 4:2).

And the list goes on. The more we respond with patience, the more we become Christ-like. Indeed, practice makes you patient.

LET’S PRAY

Lord, thank You for filling me with Your Holy Spirit throughout the day. When I’m faced with challenging situations, remind me to respond with Your love in mind. Help me to yield to Your Holy Spirit so I can respond with patience. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

APPLICATION

Practice being patient by doing P-R-A-Y when you feel like you are to respond the opposite: Pause. Resist speaking or acting immediately. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you. Yield to how the Holy Spirit wants you to respond.
