His doctor has advised him to eat more fish and vegetables because the results of his medical check-up have revealed conditions, such as elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure, which might get worse.

We offer many excuses: Wala akong time mag-exercise” orMay gamot naman ako. Another reason, perhaps said jokingly, but might be trulywhat’s in our hearts: I want to enjoy life and die happy!

But what does the Bible say about eating unhealthy foods and other practices that harm our bodies? There are three reminders according to our short passage today:

1) Our bodies house the Holy Spirit the moment we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
2) When Jesus died for our sins, He bought us, body and soul, with His life. So our bodies are precious.
3) We should use our bodies to glorify God.

What does this mean for us on a daily basis? It means we don’t take anything or do anything that harms our bodies. Instead, we should eat healthy foods and watch how much we eat. Aside from our diet, we should also be physically active. Walk. Dance. Play a sport. Move our bodies so our muscles and bones get strong. Sabi nga, Galaw-galaw para hindi agad pumanaw. Do all of these not because we want to look beautiful or handsome, but because we want to be healthier (although there is nothing wrong with having good looks as a result).

Be intentional with the use of our bodies. Do we use our strength and energy to help others in need? What about the way we dress? Do we make sure we do not cause anyone to be tempted by avoiding revealing clothes? Let’s remember the Apostle Paul’s advice and honor God with our bodies.
