A “brother from another mother!” Ganyan ang tawag natin sa kaibigan na parang kapatid na rin natin. A kind of friend na alam mong puwede mong pagkatiwalaan ng buhay mo at password mo.

May ganitong kaibigan si Dan sa katauhan ni Kevin. He described him as kind, loyal, and a trustworthy friend. He has helped Dan and his girlfriend in so many ways, the kind of help na minsan kapamilya lang ang gagawa. Isang kaibigan na handang tumulong kahit hindi mo pa hinihingi.

He graciously shares his life and faith in Jesus with all his friends. Dan and his girlfriend are truly grateful to the Lord because they have found a “Jonathan” friend in Kevin.

In the Bible, the story of David and Jonathan in First and Second Samuel is one remarkable story of brotherly love and close friendship. Here are two snapshots of what kind of brothers they were to each other:

1. A loyal brother

Si Jonathan ay anak ni King Saul na may galit Kay David. Noong gustong patayin ng hari si David, namagitan siya at pinigilan ang kanyang tatay. He showed his loyalty, at hindi siya nagdalawang-isip na tulungang makatakas ang kanyang kaibigan.

2. A blood brother

Jonathan and David are not biological brothers, pero higit pa sa magkapatid ang turingan nila. They made a blood covenant with each other (also known as blood compact in our culture). Ito‘y sumpaan na sila‘y magiging tapat na magkaibigan habang buhay.

When David became a king and Jonathan passed away, he honored their blood covenant. Hinanap niya ang natitirang kapamilya ni Jonathan at ito‘y ginawan niya ng kabutihan.

Behind every good story of friendship is the Lord who also offers Himself to us. It is through Jesus‘ blood that we have been saved, and it is through His blood that we can find blood brothers like no other.
