Makikilala ninyo ang katotohanan, at ang katotohanan ang magpapalaya sa inyo.

Juan 8:32 (MBB)

“…and the truth shall set you free.”

Pag sinabi o inamin mo ang totoong pangyayari, makakalaya ka na dahil wala ka nang pagtatagpiing kasinungalingan. Kasi pag nagsinungaling ka, kailangan mong tandaan ang una mong kuwento dahil inconsistencies will bring you down.

While that is true, is this what Jesus meant when He said this, as recorded in John 8:31–32 (NLT)? Jesus said to the people who believed in Him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Jesus’ audience at that time were those who claimed to be His followers. He told them He was the truth who would set them free, but not from the shackles of the Roman empire, as the Jews had wished. Jesus was talking of a kind of freedom that would release them from the bondage of sin. There was rampant hypocrisy then that evil compromises became the norm. These included taxing the people heavily while tax collectors accepted bribes. The widows, the people with disabilities, and the poor were neglected, while majestic temples stood. Religious teachers and political leaders would pray, tithe, fast and sacrifice expensive animals at the temple to impress their followers.

Ano ang ibig sabihin nito sa atin ngayon? Knowing the truth means knowing Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. The freedom He’s offering is freedom from the penalty and pressure of sin. There is still the presence of sin but with Christ, we are able to freely pursue His perfect will for us, with the help of the Holy Spirit. This freedom means demonstrating a servant-like attitude — to be a man or woman for others.

LET’S PRAY

Patawad, Panginoon. Hindi Kita kinilala bilang Katotohanan na magbibigay sa akin ng tunay na kalayaan. Ngayon ay nagtitiwala ako na Ikaw ang Katotohanan na tunay na magpapalaya sa akin.

APPLICATION

Confess a particular bad habit that you are in bondage to. After praying and confessing, talk to a friend who can help you, to whom you can be accountable, for kicking that bad habit, with the help of the Holy Spirit.
