According to Galatians 5:22, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The Spirit of God within us causes us to have these characteristics. Paano ba nakikita sa buhay natin ang bungang ito, gaya halimbawa ng love? Let’s take a look at a concrete example sa buhay ni David at Jonathan. Welcome to our series, “Fruit of the Spirit.”

Minsa’y nagtanong si David, “Mayroon pa bang nalalabi sa sambahayan ni Saul? Gusto kong ipadama sa kanya ang aking kagandahang-loob alang-alang kay Jonatan.”

2 Samuel 9:1

How do you view friendship? Is it transactional or unconditional? Are you a friend for all seasons or a friend for just one season?

One of the best examples of friendship in the Bible is the story of David and Jonathan (1 Samuel 18). Their friendship was exceptional and their love for each other remained strong when it was tested.

Because of jealousy sa victory ni David sa bawat giyera, King Saul planned to kill him. Jonathan, King Saul’s son, warned David about this (1 Samuel 20). He stood by his friend’s side kahit na he was disgraced by his father for doing so.

David, in return, remained true to his promise of loyalty to Jonathan (1 Samuel 20:14). When David became King, hinanap niya kung may natitira pang buhay sa pamilya ni Jonathan. When he found Mephibosheth na anak nito, he showed him kindness for the sake of his friend. He even restored all the land that belonged to his grandfather, Saul. Even when Jonathan died in battle, David did not forget his covenant with him (2 Samuel 9).

God is like that to His children. He is not only a father to us but a loyal friend too. Hindi naka-base sa sitwasyon ang pangako Niya at hindi Siya nakakalimot.

God is our friend for all seasons. In sickness, in health, in poverty, in prosperity, in joy, and in grief, He is there for us. And He said that He will answer us if we call upon Him because He always loves us.

Join us again tomorrow as we continue to look into scriptures and real life examples of how we can bear the fruit of the Spirit in our life.
