“How can I help?”

Ito ang opening line ng customer service representatives tuwing makakausap sila sa phone or makakaharap nila ang client. They are paid to resolve any issue, meet the needs of the clients, and make the transaction as smooth as possible. Minsan pa nga, they go over and beyond their duty just to satisfy the clients.

Christians also have a duty toward one another. Sabi ni Apostle Paul, we are called to carry each other’s burden according to Jesus. Carrying another person’s load is not a paid job, but a heartfelt support toward a brother or sister who is in need. But how can we carry another’s burden?

There are many ways. One is to pray for one another. Madaming puso ang gumagaan kapag naipagdadasal sila ng ibang tao (James 5:16). Another is to encourage one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Make it a habit to reach out to friends. Hindi mo alam, ang kaibigan mo pala ay may mabigat na dinadala at ang words of encouragement mo ang makakapagbigay ng hope sa kanya.  

Minsan kailangan din ng physical help like running errands for a friend dahil hindi nila magawa. Kung may sakit naman sila at nagpapagaling sa bahay, puwede kang magpa-deliver ng food sa bahay nila or ipagluto mo. Carrying another person’s burden does not mean solving their problems. Ang role mo ay tumulong pagaanin nang konti ang kanilang dinadala at kung magawa mo ‘yun, sinunod mo na rin si Lord.

Sa totoo lang, people don’t need grand gestures of chivalry. They need someone to be there for them, who will listen and show love and care.
