Extraordinary Sacrifice
At huwag nating kaligtaan ang paggawa ng mabuti at ang pagtulong sa kapwa, sapagkat iyan ang alay na kinalulugdan ng Diyos.
Mga Hebreo 13:16
CKD. It stands for chronic kidney disease, a long-term condition wherein the kidneys fail to filter waste and excess fluid from the blood is prevented from leaving the body. If it gets worse, ongoing dialysis and then a kidney transplant are usually recommended. A kidney transplant takes a long time to actually happen, hindi lang dahil sa dami ng steps to clear the patient but also due to the availability of a kidney donor. Patients can wait for a deceased kidney donor or look for a family member who is willing to donate.
Because she loves her husband, Jane volunteered to give one of her kidneys to her husband Raul. Dumaan din siya sa maraming check ups, lab tests, and counseling to make sure she is healthy and is a perfect match. Walking alongside her husband’s healing journey brought physical, mental, emotional, and financial stress on Jane, pero dahil mahal niya ang asawa, she trusted that God will help her endure everything. Jane exemplifies the selfless sacrifice that Jesus imparted to His disciples: “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends (John 15:13, NLT). For Jane, donating one of her kidneys meant losing one of her own so that her husband could have a more normal lifestyle and live longer.
Jane also took the application of Hebrews 13:16 to the next level and exceeded expectations: “Don’t forget to do good things for others and to share what you have with them. These are the kinds of sacrifices that please God” (GW). When the love of God fills us, His love empowers us to share and make extraordinary sacrifices. When we obey His prompting to make such sacrifice, the Lord is pleased.
LET’S PRAY
Lord Jesus, I cannot make sacrifices on my own but help me to do so when prompted by Your love, for Your glory and pleasure.
APPLICATION
Pray for those who have long-term illnesses and the families and friends who care for them.
