When we talk of Christmas, we cannot but talk about gifts. Let’s reflect on our practice of gift-giving as we continue our series “12 Days Before Christmas.”

Ang taong mapagbigay ay lalong yumayaman, ngunit naghihirap ang tikom na mga kamay. Ang taong matulungin, sasagana ang pamumuhay, at ang marunong tumulong ay tiyak na tutulungan.

Mga Kawikaan 11:24–25

Every Christmas season, hindi na iba sa atin ang mamroblema dahil sa laki ng gastusin. Kaliwa’t kanan kasi ang handaan at gift-giving. Hindi rin nagdadalawang-isip ang mga tao to spend their bonuses sa bonggang Christmas decor at gadgets, o bagong damit at sapatos.

Though hindi naman masama ang gumastos para sa sarili, sa pamilya, at i-celebrate ang isang masayang Pasko, one way we can honor this joyous occasion of Christ’s birth is by being like Him — giving and sharing our blessing with others.

Isang magandang opportunity ang Pasko para pasalamatan si Lord sa lahat ng natanggap nating blessings by sharing it with others. It may be through acts of kindness, gifts of material things, or simply offering our time and presence to someone who needs it. Gaano man ito kalaki o kaliit, ang mahalaga ay mai-share natin ang kabutihan ng Diyos by bringing great joy and encouragement.

This Christmas, let us remember that the true spirit of the season lies in giving — that Jesus gave Himself for the forgiveness of our sins. Hindi natin kailangang matakot na magkukulang tayo dahil when the Lord knows our cheerful giving, He will surely replace it to the overflowing. Isa pa, hindi man sa materyal na bagay, the joy that comes with knowing we have blessed and helped others is more than enough para masabi nating, “it is better to give than to receive.”
