Resting in Jesus
Sa aking paghinga, nakakatulog nang mahimbing, pagkat ikaw, Yahweh, ang nag-iingat sa akin.
Awit 4:8
Narinig mo na ba ang phrase, “As you rest, God will do the rest”? Madaling sabihin, hindi madaling gawin lalo na kung madalas tayong nagmamadali para matapos ang deadlines. Whether you are a worker, a student, or just a person who wants to finish your daily tasks, we all have the same amount of time: 24 hours per day.
There are people who create a checklist, which helps them track what needs to be done. Many of them think na kailangan matapos ang lahat ng tasks bago matulog or else, feeling like a failure sila.
In the Bible, there is a story that mentioned two sisters, Martha and Mary. When Jesus visited them, Mary sat down to listen to Jesus. Meanwhile Martha was distracted with cooking and told Jesus, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” Jesus responded, “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things . . . Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:40–41, NIV).
Nakaka-relate ka ba kay Martha? Or have you chosen what is better, like Mary? How many times have we been so focused on our tasks that we forget to spend time with Jesus? Have we also forgotten to rest? May we always find time to talk to Jesus and read His Word. As for our tendency to overwork, may we remember that more than just finishing our daily checklist, we should also give ourselves time to rest.
LET’S PRAY
Dear Jesus, help me to find rest in You. I pray that I won’t be so consumed by my daily tasks that I forget to spend time with You. Remind me to fix my eyes on You and be ready to receive the newness of life through rest. Amen.
APPLICATION
What makes you restless? Write them down on your journal or phone, and surrender all of these to Jesus.
