Part of taming the tongue is practicing healthy self-talk.

Awit 43:5

Marami ang humanga kay Sophie when she had a positive attitude after her co-worker got promoted instead of her. People knew na matagal na niyang pinagsisikapan na makuha ang managerial position sa kanilang company. Yet she remained professional and sincere sa pagtanggap ng desisyon ng kanyang superiors.

How did Sophie take it so well?

Through positive self-talk. Every morning, Sophie would talk to herself and say, “Sophie, you are loved by Jesus. You have a family who supports you. You have a fulfilling job that pays you a good salary. So no matter what happens today, be thankful and trust that God is in control.”

We can develop healthy self-talk when we come to the ultimate source of good news. He is Jesus Christ. He came to save us from our sins and transform us from being the worst to the best version of ourselves. Hindi madali pero hindi rin imposibleng matutunan.

Here are some of the Bible verses we can say to ourselves whenever we feel unloved, rejected, and discouraged:

From “walang nagmamahal sa iyo” to

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, ESV).

From “ang pangit mo” to

“I praise you [God] because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14, NIV).

From “hanggang dito na lang ako” to

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, ESV).

Don’t miss the last part of this series “Taming the Tongue.” Bukas iyan, kaya tune in again tomorrow!

LET’S PRAY

Dear Jesus, I admit that I have a tendency na magself-pity when I’m frustrated or disappointed. Gusto ko na pong makabangon from feeling defeated. I want to live my life full of hope and confidence. Please, help me, Lord. I need You. Amen.

APPLICATION

Try talking to yourself positively pagkagising mo. Use encouraging words. You can try reading the book of Psalms in the Bible, too. Whether you talk loud or soft, make sure na naririnig mo ang sarili mo.
