When the Not-So-Good Life Becomes Good
Mateo 5:3–6
Who does not want a good life? May kilala ka ba na nangarap ng pangit at miserableng buhay? Perhaps, there are people who pursue this subconsciously or out of desperation. But in general, we strive to have a good and happy life. We pray and work hard to have a good life — ‘yung masaya, walang iniisip na mga bayarin, komportable, walang problema, stress-free. Masarap na buhay ‘ika nga, pero kung ang basehan ay worldly standards like material wealth, successful career, or social status … parang mahirap ma-achieve because there will always be challenges that may lead to failure and frustration. Then life becomes not so good.
Ibang-iba ito sa mga itinuro ni Jesus sa Beatitudes (Beatus in Latin means “supreme blessedness”) sa Matthew 3:5–11, when life is still good even in the midst of adversity o kapag humaharap tayo sa pagsubok. Ang sabi ni Jesus: Blessed pa din ang mga nagdadalamhati for they will be comforted. Blessed are the humble because they will inherit the earth. Mapalad ang mga naghahanap ng hustisya for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs (Matthew 5:3–6). Ang hindi magandang karanasan o mga pagsubok na pinagdadaanan ay may katapat na pagpapala at pangako. The good life is a life totally dependent on God and not on self. It is when we are powerless and empty that we are full because we have access to the Kingdom of God where there is power, healing, joy, peace, and everything else that we need.
LET’S PRAY
Dear Lord, teach me to live a life that is totally dependent on You. Open my eyes to see how blessed I am in all circumstances because I have access to Your Kingdom through Your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
APPLICATION
Write down the nine beatitudes found in Matthew 5:3–12 in your journal and claim for yourself the corresponding promises from God.
