When We Can’t Pray, We Can Sing
Naghihirap ako’t mahapdi ang sugat, O Diyos, ingatan mo, ako ay iligtas! Pupurihin ang Diyos, aking aawitan, dadakilain ko’t pasasalamatan.
Awit 69:29–30
Are you going through a difficult season right now? Do you find yourself wanting to pray to ask for God’s help but your heart feels so heavy that you can’t utter even a single word? Why not try singing worship songs instead?
Worship is not just a command God has given people. God gave us worship as a weapon and a strategy to fight life’s battles.
In the Bible, may isang inspiring character who worshiped God even in the midst of suffering. Job lost his wealth, his children, and even his health, yet we read about him worshiping and acknowledging God as the only One who has the right to give and take away (Job 1:20-21). His story shows us that we can worship even in unimaginable situations.
Worshiping God in the middle of pain doesn’t mean that God is selfish — that He doesn’t care about us and only cares about what we bring to Him. In reality, we are encouraged to worship Him so we can draw near to Him. When His presence is near, our broken hearts can be healed. Making music to God is like applying a balm for our wounds.
When we magnify God in worship, our problems fade in the background. When words fail us, worship songs become our prayer and declaration. In the middle of worshiping God through music, we enter into a divine exchange with God — exchanging our worries and pains for God’s peace and comfort. When we worship God, our mourning turns into dancing for joy.
When we go through difficulties, may we find ourselves singing to God with a faith like Job’s and see God work amidst our situation.
