Your Grief is Valid

Isaias 53:3a

Halo-halong emosyon ang nararamdaman ni Cathy. Nawalan siya ng trabaho nang magsara bigla ang kompanyang pinapasukan niya for the past ten years. Naglalaban ang fear and sorrow sa kanyang puso. Pero sabi ng ilang well-meaning Christian friends, she should always be joyful in the Lord. Pakiramdam tuloy ni Cathy, napakaliit ng faith niya.

Nakaka-relate ka ba kay Cathy? Nakaramdam ka na ba ng guilt for grieving? O nasabihan ka na bang, “Wag ka malungkot. Maraming may mas mabigat na problema sa mundo”? Hindi nga ba tayo dapat magpakita ng kalungkutan? Sign ba ng lack of faith ang pagdadalamhati?

Silipin natin ang buhay ni Jesus. Siya mismo ay nag-express ng kalungkutan, not just once, but several times. Umiyak Siya nang namatay si Lazarus (John 11:35). He cried for Jerusalem during His triumphal entry (Luke 19:41–44). Sa Garden of Gethsemane, sobra-sobra ang Kanyang pagdadalamhati, pumatak ang Kanyang pawis na parang malalaking patak ng dugo (Luke 22:44).

Because Jesus openly showed grief, we are free to express sadness, too. Huwag nating isipin na wala tayong faith if we cry out to Jesus about our sorrows. As someone who has experienced grief, kakaibang comfort ang handa Niyang ibigay sa atin. At kasama sa comfort na ito ay hope — hope that our sadness will not last forever. Umiyak man tayo buong magdamag, may kapalit naman itong galak ni Jesus pagdating ng umaga (Psalm 30:5).

LET’S PRAY

Dear Jesus, sometimes I feel guilty for grieving. Thank You for reminding me that my grief is valid and that You understand what I’m going through. Tulungan Mo akong i-process ang grief na ito and to put my hope in You. Amen.

APPLICATION

Isulat sa iyong journal ang tungkol sa isang bagay that you feel guilty grieving for. Then lift it up to Jesus in prayer.
