Welcome back to our series “The Miracles of Jesus.” Do you remember when Jesus turned the water into wine? Let’s look back to this miracle which happens to be His first recorded miracle.

Ang nangyaring ito sa Cana sa Galilea ang unang himalang ginawa ni Jesus. Sa pamamagitan nito’y inihayag niya ang kanyang kapangyarihan at nanalig sa kanya ang mga alagad.

Juan 2:11

There was much rejoicing and celebrating at this wedding in Cana. For the bride and groom, it was the happiest day of their lives. Yet in the middle of the dancing, the eating, and the drinking, trouble was actually brewing. The servants ran out of wine to serve. Sa kultura noon, malaking kahihiyan ito. Ano na lang ang sasabihin ng mga bisita?

But what couldve been a great embarrassment for the family served as the backdrop of this pivotal event in Jesus public ministry. When approached by his mother Mary who told Him, “They have no more wine,” Jesus answered, “My hour has not yet come.” Still, Mary instructed the servants to do whatever He tells them. She knew her son and had big faith in Him.

Jesus then had six stone jars, which could hold a maximum of 115 liters each, filled to the brim with water. Afterwards, He had the servants draw some out to take to the master at the banquet. Pagkatikim ng alak, the master of the banquet said, “Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you’ve saved the best till now!” (John 2:10, The Message) In turning water into wine, the glory of the Son of God was revealed to the people for the first time. Who He was inside was starting to manifest on the outside.

That day, the disciples witnessed the miraculous — Jesus exercising authority over nature — and believed. Little did they know that they were about to see more amazing things in the days ahead.

Jesus is the Son of God who exercises authority over nature. He is also the God who takes part in the celebrations of our human lives. Thank you for joining us in our series “The Miracles of Jesus.” We will be back with more stories of the miracles of Jesus in some other days. Do watch out!
