Kinakailangang siya ang maging dakila at ako nama’y maging mababa.

Ang dream match between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao in 2008 ended in a technical knockout dahil nag-decide si De La Hoya not to continue to fight bago pa nagsimula ang ninth round. Sinabing ang pagsurender ni De La Hoya ay isang simbolo ng passing the torch to Pacquiao.

Sa Bible, we can read of another example of passing the torch. Dumating na ang panahon na si Jesus ay nagbabaptize na rin, tulad ni John the Baptist. Naging usap-usapan ito. To settle the matter once and for all, sinabi ni John the Baptist, “Lubos na ang aking kagalakan ngayon. Kinakailangang [si Jesus] ang maging dakila at ako nama’y maging mababa” (Juan 3:29–30). Sumurender na si John the Baptist kay Jesus dahil tapos na ang kanyang time of ministry.

Isang challenge sa atin ang pag-surrender dahil mahirap naman talagang to give up who we are. Human nature tells us that it should be about me, myself, and I, right? We all want to be in control.

Pero kung gusto nating magkaroon ng excellence sa ating spiritual life, we have to surrender to Jesus Christ. And the more areas of our life we turn over to Jesus, lalo nating mae-experience ang kabuuan ng isang magandang relasyon with Him. It might seem like we are losing ourselves, but it’s actually preserving our lives for eternity.  

Kaya mo na bang sumurender kay Jesus? Sinasabi Niya sa iyo, “Huwag mo nang pagurin ang sarili mo. Narito Ako to take your burdens away. All you need is to surrender to Me and I will do the rest!” 

Friend, it’s time to pass the torch to Him!
