Pag-ingatan ninyong hindi pakitang-tao lamang ang paggawa ninyo ng mabuti. Kapag ganyan ang ginawa ninyo, wala kayong matatamong gantimpala buhat sa inyong Ama na nasa langit.

Mateo 6:1

Sikat na vlogger si Anya. Her dream is to become the queen of TikTok. She sings, dances, and does everything for audience engagement. While thinking of ways to create content, she wondered, “What if I sponsor a feeding program? I’ll serve food myself. The viewers will see me do it, and I’ll gain more followers.”

Maganda man ang gusto niyang gawin, the motivation behind it is far from being noble. Para lang sa views, para lang sa likes, at para lang kumita. Jesus warns us from falling into this same trap. He said in Matthew 6:1 (GW), “Be careful not to do your good works in public in order to attract attention… .” Back then, the religious leaders would do acts of grace and mercy so people would think highly of them. Their hands might be busy, but their hearts were actually empty.

Ikaw, are you guilty of broadcasting your goodness so you can get a virtual pat on the back? How many times have you posted on social media about your charitable acts and then checked every hour to see how many likes you have gotten?

Can we be countercultural? Do the unexpected. Give to others and then forget about it. After all, Jesus said, “Your giving should be done in secret. Your Father can see what is done in secret, and he will reward you” (Matthew 6:4, NCV).

Instead of doing good for the likes, do it for love. The happiness it will give you will outlast the 2 days you will trend on TikTok, which, sadly, is short and temporary. But the kindness you do in secret, in the name of the Lord, , can make an impact in eternity.

LET’S PRAY

Dear Heavenly Father, sift through my heart and remove the wrong motives. I want to do good, in secret, to honor and glorify You. Yours, and not other people’s, is the only applause I want to hear.

APPLICATION

How about doing something kind today? Don’t post or tell others about it. Let it stay a secret between you and God.
