Are you burdened and desperate because a loved one is sick? May you find encouragement today as we continue our series on “Jesus, the Great Healer”,

Marcos 5:21-24

Have you, out of desperation, begged God to do something? If you are a parent, gagawin mo ang lahat para sa anak mo. Ganito ang ginawa ni Jairus. He was a leader in the synagogue but he was much more than his job title. He was a father with a deathly sick daughter. Jesus, who agreed to come with him, was his only hope.

Huli na ang lahat, Jairus must have thought. Wala na ang anak ko. Jesus knew otherwise. He said that the girl was just sleeping but the people laughed at Him.

“Don’t be afraid; just believe,” Jesus told Jairus. Inside the father’s broken heart, a tug of war was going on — grief was on one side being pulled by faith on the other. The Great Healer went to the girl, took her by her cold hand and said, “Little girl, get up!” She opened her eyes, stood up, and walked around. The people were amazed. Paano nangyari ito? The cries of sorrow turned into tears of joy. In that moment, a miracle happened, a desperate father got his wish, and the power of Jesus was revealed.

The Bible records two other instances when Jesus raised the dead. Every time, like this one, He was driven by compassion. Jairus did the right thing in coming to Jesus. When we, too, reach the end of our rope, may we find Jesus holding it, saying, “I’ve got this.”

We hope you’ll join us again tomorrow for the last part of our series “Jesus, the Great Healer”. Let’s find healing, encouragement, and refreshment from God’s Word!
