Matapos magpaalam, umakyat siya sa bundok upang manalangin.

Marcos 6:46

As busy as He was healing and ministering to people here on earth, the Lord Jesus made it a point to be intimate with God. But He didn’t spend that in a busy town square or the city gate where people gathered. Instead, the Bible says that He went to quiet places like mountains (Mark 6:46) or gardens (Mark 14:35).

Bakit ito ginawa ni Jesus? Siguro dahil pinangalagaan Niya ang katahimikan para mas malasap ang oras. Sa bundok o sa hardin, walang makakaistorbo sa Kanya. In fact, even when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane with Peter, James, and John, He went a little further away from them so He could have a more intimate and personal alone time with God.

At times, the four walls of our house, cubicle, or office can be distracting. There are people around you working, talking, or making noise. You can even hear the endless notifications on their devices. These sources of distraction can prevent you from having quality time with our Heavenly Father. It’s like talking to a loved one while your smartphone isn’t on silent. Every sound or call will take your attention away from the other person!

But when you’re in nature, there aren’t any distractions like that. You’ll feel the wind’s steady, cool breeze all over you. You’ll hear birds gently chirping in the distance, flying from one place to another. You can focus on God’s Word. Best of all, these elements of nature will remind you of Him. Remember, God created everything (Genesis 1:1–31)!

How about going to a garden or park with your Bible, notebook, and pen, and asking God to meet you there? Tell Him you want to know Him more. Ask Him to reveal more of Him to you. You’ll be surprised how much your intimacy with God will improve the more you spend time with Him in nature.

LET’S PRAY

Dear Jesus, please reveal more of God to me as I study the Bible and pray while surrounded by nature. May I enjoy the time I spend with You as I thank You for Your creation.

APPLICATION

Spend your Bible reading and prayer time outside your house, be it in a park or, if you have one, your balcony where you can see the sky, plants, or other beautiful elements of nature.
