“Ano ang gusto mong gawin ko para sa iyo?” tanong sa kanya ni Jesus. Sumagot ang bulag, “Guro, gusto ko pong makakitang muli.” Sinabi ni Jesus, “Kung gayon, magaling ka na dahil sa iyong pananampalataya.” Noon di’y nakakita siyang muli, at sumunod kay Jesus.

Marcos 10:51–52

Do you know any blind people? Naiisip mo ba how hard it is for them to navigate through life? Daily tasks like showering, eating, and even walking take more effort for them to do. Most probably, because of their disability, they depend on others and always ask for help.

Makaka-relate si Bartimaeus, a blind beggar in Jericho. He was seated on the roadside, begging, when he heard that Jesus was there. Stories of His miraculous healings must have reached Bartimaeus because he cried out, “Jesus, have mercy on me!” Many shushed him, but he was undeterred. Sumigaw pa siya nang mas malakas, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus’ ears and heart heard this poor man’s cry. “What do you want me to do for you?” ang tanong Niya. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see” (Mark 10:51b, NIV). At that moment, the life of Bartimaeus was changed. When Jesus said to him, “Your faith has healed you,” he immediately received his sight.

Imagine the joy he must have felt! From seeing nothing, he can now see everything. The world has colors, and he can finally appreciate them.

All of us, at one point, have been in Bartimaeus’s shoes. Maybe not blind physically, but spiritually. Our hearts could see nothing but darkness until Jesus came along and brought light. In John 8:12 (ESV), Jesus declares, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Are you struggling because of some dark spots in your life, preventing you from seeing God’s goodness clearly? Come to Jesus by faith and tell Him, “I want to see.”
