For the next three days, we will look into how three biblical characters experienced what it means to live by faith.  Welcome to our new series, “How Big Is Your Faith?”

Namangha si Jesus nang marinig ito, kaya’t humarap siya sa napakaraming taong sumusunod sa kanya at sinabi, “Kahit na sa Israel ay hindi ako nakakita ng ganito kalaking pananampalataya.”

Lucas 7:9

There was once a military captain who led 100 soldiers. He was a good boss who didn’t just train those under him. Even outside of the field, he cared for people. In fact, when one of his servants became deathly ill, he became too concerned, lalo na’t malapit ito sa puso niya. This captain was a loving and merciful man, ‘yung tipong gagawin ang lahat mapagaling lamang ang tauhan niya.

Where — or to whom — will he turn? He didn’t know Jesus personally, but he had heard the stories. Narinig niya ang tungkol sa mga himalang ginawa nito: nagpakain ng libo-libo at nagpagaling sa mga maysakit. He can surely help my servant, he must have thought. He asked that a message be sent to Jesus about his request for his servant’s healing. Nung malapit na si Jesus sa bahay, nagpahatid ang military captain ng isa pang mensahe: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof … But say the word, and my servant will be healed” (Luke 7:6b–7, NIV).

What great faith this military captain displayed! Sa sobrang laki ng paniniwala niya, kahit daw hindi na humarap si Jesus sa kanila, kaya nitong magpagaling in an instant — sa isang salita lang!

Jesus — our Savior, Healer, and Lord — honored the military captain’s faith. Pagkabalik ng messenger sa bahay, magaling na nga ang maysakit. It happened the way the military captain believed it would. Totoo nga na with just the words of Jesus, healing can come. With His words, miracles can happen. With His words, any person’s life can be changed.
