Have you heard of the familiar line, “I will only  believe when I see”? One of Jesus’ disciples had this mindset. Nanatili ba siya sa ganitong klase ng paniniwala? Alamin natin sa second part ng ating series, “How Big Is Your Faith?”

Sumagot si Tomas, “Hindi ako maniniwala hangga’t hindi ko nakikita at nahahawakan ang butas ng mga pako sa kanyang mga kamay, at hangga’t hindi ko naisusuot ang aking daliri sa mga sugat na iyon at sa kanyang tagiliran.”

Juan 20:25b

Excited ang disciples. Wala na silang ibang bukambibig kundi ang nangyari nung makita nila si Jesus nung unang araw ng linggo. Just several days before it happened, they were mourning. Nakita nila with their own eyes ang pagkamatay ni Jesus sa cross. Tapos, bigla na lang sumulpot si Jesus sa naka-lock na kuwarto kung nasaan sila. They remembered Jesus saying, “Peace be with you!” and afterward, He showed them His hands and side. They were so happy to see the Lord!

Pero may isang hindi masaya: si Thomas. He wasn’t in the room when Jesus appeared, so he was skeptical. Who can blame him? He was still probably overcome by grief. Their Master, who they’ve been with for three years, has died. Wala na Siya. Kaya naman nasabi niyang hindi siya maniniwala hangga’t hindi nakikita ng sarili niyang mga mata si Jesus. Only then will he believe.

We know how the story ends. Jesus did appear to the disciples again after a week. Turning to Thomas, He said, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe” (John 20:27, NIV).

Are you, like Thomas, finding it hard to believe things about God because you haven’t experienced them yourself? Do you need to see with your own eyes na buhay Siya bago ka maniwala? Open your heart and let Jesus in. Read His words. Spend time with faithful Christians. Soon, He will show how good, loving, and powerful He is. Listen to Him tell you, “Stop doubting and believe.”
