Nagkaroon ng contempt, anger, at jealousy between them. Sarah treated her servant harshly.

An angel of the Lord met Hagar on her way to freedom. Sa unang pagkakataon, Hagar was referred to by her name. Elsewhere in the telling of this story, it seemed that she was nothing more than an accessory, treated more like a thing than a person.

Hagar was told by the angel na bumalik at muling magpasakop kay Sarah. She was promised that God will give her more descendants, mas marami pa sa kaya niyang bilangin. From then on, the maid servant referred to God using a name that was personal to her, “El Roi.”

God is not blind to the outcasts, the underdogs, and the marginalized. When you feel like you’re invisible sometimes, remember that you will always be seen by Him. If He can see a poor, hurting, pregnant slave like Hagar, He will see you, too.

LET’S PRAY

El Roi, You’re the one who sees me. I praise You, Lord, for who You are to me.

APPLICATION

Are there people around you who feel that they are insignificant or worthless? Bigyan mo sila ng atensyon. It might be the janitor cleaning your office, ang kasambahay ninyong tapat na nag-aalaga sa pamilya ninyo, o kahit sino pang nakakasalamuha mo araw-araw. Help them feel that they are seen para malaman nila na nakikita rin sila ng Diyos.
