Higit sa lahat, magmahalan kayo nang tapat, sapagkat ang pagmamahal ay pumapawi ng maraming kasalanan.

1 Pedro 4:8

People are complicated creatures. Hindi puwedeng ikahon at lagyan ng label. Why? Because sooner or later, the label will peel off and won’t stick anymore.

Gerry learned this in an interesting way. All his life, he adored Sandra. From the time he met her, he said, “She’s perfect. Someday, I will marry her.” Lovestruck, he asked God for strength, pursued her, and finally, convinced her to love him too. After their wedding, Gerry discovered many things about her new wife, not all of them good. For one, nadiskubre niyang hindi pala ito marunong magluto. Nang magluto ng isda, hindi muna kinaliskisan. Aside from her poor cooking skills, mahina rin ang asawa niya sa time management. Every time they have to go somewhere, palagi silang nale-late dahil sa kanya. Na-realize ni Gerry, Sandra isn’t so perfect after all. But did it change the way he loved his wife? No. He loved her, still loved her anyway.

It’s a good thing that God didn’t expect us to be perfect before He started to love us. In Romans 5:8 (NIV), we read, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” There are those na nahihiyang lumapit kay God. They say, “Saka na lang. Magpapakabait muna ako.” Or they think, “Hindi pa ako ready na i-give up ang mga bisyo ko.” But when Jesus was here on Earth, He reached out to many people, even sinners — the shady tax collector, the Samaritan woman with many husbands. In short, everyone.

Sana someday ay kayanin nating magmahal tulad Niya. To love people not because they are perfect but to love them even if they are not.
