Subalit ang bunga ng Espiritu ay pag-ibig, kagalakan, kapayapaan, katiyagaan, kabaitan, kabutihan, katapatan, kahinahunan, at pagpipigil sa sarili. Walang batas laban sa mga ito.

Mga Taga-Galacia 5:22–23

Dahil gutom na at mainit ang ulo ni Matt, napagsalitaan niya ng hindi maganda ang asawa. Dahil pagod at kulang naman sa tulog si Cath, she shouted back at him.

Sabi nila, isa sa madalas na dahilan ng misunderstanding, hindi lang ng mag-asawa, ay ang harsh na pananalita. Kaya naman, being gentle in words and actions can prevent future arguments and resolve conflicts.

Gentleness does not mean that we are displaying weakness. Sa katunayan, the strongest men and women are gentle. Why? Because gentleness is the godly exercise of power. It is the ability to steward or control our strength to help others rather than tear them down. Kagaya ng sinabi sa Mga Kawikaan 15:4, “Ang magiliw na salita ay nagpapasigla sa buhay, ngunit ang matalas na pangungusap ay masakit sa kalooban.”

Our great example of gentleness is Jesus Christ. He came not as an intimidating king but a gentle Lord when he took the form of a servant (Mark 10:45). Jesus also responded gently sa maraming beses na pino-provoke siya ng  Pharisees na magkasala. Isa na rito ang story ng isang babae who was caught in the act of adultery in John 8:1-11. He responded in a gentle manner and said to the Pharisees, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Jesus also displayed gentleness upon the woman. Instead of condemning her, Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Insecurity leads us to show off our strength and threaten others. Gentleness, on the other hand, helps us to use our God-given strength to use it for good in protecting others. Instead of violence, let us please, be gentle.
