Mandaraya ang pang-akit at kumukupas ang ganda, ngunit ang babaing gumagalang at sumusunod kay Yahweh ay pararangalan.

Kawikaan 31:30

In this Instagram and TikTok generation, there is so much emphasis on beauty and physical looks. Many want to look good and feel good about themselves. Many put much effort in projecting an image they want others to see. Pero nakaka-alarma na maraming good-looking people ang makikita online and yet, the rate of depression and mental health problems continue to rise. Is there a connection? We’re not sure. But what is true is that how we look now will not be the same in a decade or two. Our freshness and vitality will fade. Age will catch up to us: our skin will sag, our hair will turn white, and our body will grow weak.

Kaya naman maraming reminders ang Bible tungkol sa tunay na beauty. Proverbs 31:30 says that beauty is deceitful and it will fade, but a woman who honors the Lord should be praised. Sure, we take care of our outward appearance, but we are encouraged to give more emphasis on our inner beauty. A gentle, quiet spirit is the kind of beauty that never fades (1 Peter 3:3–4). If we are in the Lord, “our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day” (2 Corinthians 4:16, ERV). When we fix our eyes on the Lord Jesus, tumanda man ang hitsura natin, hindi natin ito ikakalungkot. Nangako kasi Siya: ang katawang-lupa natin na may kahinaan ay babaguhin Niya para maging maluwalhating tulad ng Kanyang katawan sa hinaharap (Mga Taga-Filipos 3:21).

LET’S PRAY

Panginoong Jesus, I realize that it is wrong na ibaling ko lang ang atensyon ko sa aking sarili at hindi sa Iyo. I’m sorry for putting too much emphasis on outward beauty and for not letting You reign in my heart. Guide me to be a better person so I can be a blessing to others and give glory to Your name. Amen.

APPLICATION

Continue to think about ways on how to grow in your relationship with Jesus. Connect yourself to others in a local church so that as you grow old, you can be encouraged and be an encouragement to other followers of Jesus.
