Kapag nababanggit ang new year, laging napapag-usapan ang New Year’s resolution. Paano mo nga ba magagawa ang mga ipinangako mong gawin sa taong ito? Alamin sa pagpapatuloy ng ating series na “Anong Plano Mo sa Bagong Taon?”

Iwanan na ninyo ang dating pamumuhay. Hubarin na ninyo ang inyong dating pagkatao na napapahamak dahil sa masasamang pagnanasa. Magbago na kayo ng diwa at pag-iisip.

Mga Taga-Efeso 4:22–23

May New Year’s resolutions ka ba? At the start of the year, many people promise to lose weight to be healthier. Ayun, sa first week ng taon, salad at gulay lang ang kinakain. Pagka-second week, every other day na nagka-kanin. By the third week, habang nasa Mang Inasal, napapatawag na sa waiter sabay sabing, “Kuya, extra rice para sa akin!”

Mahirap naman kasi talagang magbago. Whether it is getting rid of vices or changing habits, struggle ito para sa maraming tao. Pati ‘yung hip-hop band na Death Threat, napakanta tungkol sa problema nila. Gusto nilang bumaet pero hindi nila magawa.

But something being “hard” doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Take the case of a man na tawagin nating Zach, short for Zaccheus, a tax collector. He was known as a notorious sinner. Pero nagbago ang lahat when he encountered Jesus. When the Lord entered his house and his life, the heart of Zach was changed. Sinabi niya sa Luke 19:8 (NLT), “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”

Malamang na hindi new year nang mangyari ang tagpong ito. But Zach’s experience proves that a person doesn’t need to switch to a new calendar to go through a dramatic change. Any time is a good time. It all starts, and will always start, with the heart. When we encounter Jesus in a real and personal way, we are renewed from the inside out. Hindi na sariling lakas ang gamit natin kundi sa Kanya na.
