“Kung may magagawa ako?” tanong ni Jesus. “Mangyayari ang lahat sa sinumang may pananampalataya,” Agad namang sumagot ang ama ng bata, “Naniniwala po ako! Tulungan po Ninyo akong madagdagan pa ang aking pananampalataya.”

Paano nga ba magkaroon ng faith that is pleasing to the Lord? In Hebrews 11:6, we read, “… without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Bago mag-perform ng miracle si Jesus, lagi Niyang tinatanong kung naniniwala ang taong humihiling ng himala. In Matthew 9:28–29, He asked the two blind men who called him asking for mercy, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” And their sight was restored.

May mga sitwasyon na madaling maniwala. Pero madalas, we need to stretch our faith. Lord, pagalingin po Ninyo ang anak kong may cancer. Lord, tulungan Ninyo akong makabayad sa utang. Parang ang hirap mag-trust in these situations. We are like the father of the demon-possessed boy in Mark 9:22–24. After learning about all the miracles Jesus has done, he told Jesus, “But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” Jesus said to him, “If you can? Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Despite his unbelief, Jesus still healed his son.

Dinagdagan ni Jesus ang faith ng ama. We, too, can ask God to give us more faith. Everything is possible for those who believe as long as naka-align tayo with God’s perfect will. Let us choose to live as if we believe because, after all, that is what faith is about.
