Dahil itong buhay nami’y maikli lang na panahon, itanim sa isip namin upang kami ay dumunong.

Awit 90:12

Sa tuwing sasapit ang New Year’s Eve, nakikisigaw ka rin ba ng 10, 9, 8 … the last ten seconds before midnight? Excited kang salubungin ang Bagong Taon pero, somehow, mapapaisip ka … naku, tatanda na naman ako! Kasi sa totoo lang, nakakabit dito ang countdown ng buhay natin. Pinapaalala ng sumulat ng Awit 90:12 na dapat itanim sa ating isip na maikli lang ang panahon natin sa mundo and that’s why he prayed to God to “teach us to number our days”.

We ought to be careful how we live, to grow in wisdom because our choices here on earth have eternal consequences. We must choose between life and death. Dahil sa ating mga kasalanan, nahaharap tayo sa kaparusahan ng kasalanan, which is eternal death. But because of God’s grace and mercies, we are given a most important option to choose life. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23, KJV).

When we choose to receive God’s free gift of eternal life, nagkakaroon tayo ng bagong pananaw sa buhay dahil alam na natin ang patutunguhan natin at the end of our countdown here on earth. Through God’s power and grace, we spend our days on things that will bring glory to God. We need not fear death and the wrath of God because Jesus has made a way for us to be right with God. “Every human being is appointed to die once, and then face God’s judgment. But when we die, we will be face-to-face with Christ, the One who experienced death once for all to bear the sins of many! (Hebrews 9:27, TPT).
