When you become a Christian, everything will be OK.

All your problems will be solved when you believe in God.

Why are you sad? Christians should be happy all the time.

Have you heard any of these lines? Unfortunately, this all-will-be-well, you-will-be-immune-from-all-problems-because-you’re-a-Christian mentality has pervaded our churches. Kaya naman, those who experience problems or sadness feel unnecessary guilt. Sometimes, even to the point of doubting the authenticity of their relationship with God.

Pero did you know that Jesus Himself warned the disciples that there will be rough times ahead? During one of His last conversations with them, He told them what was to come. Non-believers will be against them. They will be persecuted. Life will be hard. But He did not leave them in despair. Instead, Jesus told them that the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, would be with them.

Out of the many wonderful things that the third Person of the Trinity does for us, the Apostle Paul mentions this: “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans” (Romans 8:26, NIV). Imagine, even our groans are translated into prayers.

Napakalaking comfort to know that when times get tough, when our heart breaks, when we have problems, we Christians are not on our own. Kasama natin ang Diyos. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we will have a trouble-free life. But God tells us in His Word that during hard times, we will never be alone.
