May oras at panahon ang kalungkutan (see Ecclesiastes 3:4). Let us accept and acknowledge this, with grace. Sabi ni Jesus, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33b, NLT). Jesus does not ask us to ignore our sorrows or pretend they don’t exist. He asks us to take heart — be brave or courageous, in other translations.

Or do you put on a cheerful mask, pretending that it does not exist? You don’t have to ignore your sorrow or pretend you are happy anymore. The good news isn’t that we will never experience sorrow; the good news is that Jesus — a Man of sorrows (Isaiah 53:3) — is with us now.

LET’S PRAY

You know my sorrow and my tears. Help me to be brave as I feel what I feel and enable me to go through these trials before me.

APPLICATION

What sorrows or trials are you trying to ignore or pretend do not exist? The first step is to acknowledge them. Afterwards, pray to God for courage and seek wise counsel to help you face and process them.
